New Delhi, Oct 16 : A huge fire engulfed a 220 kva power transformer and several small transformers at a Delhi Transco power station near Okhla in south Delhi this afternoon.
The power station is located at Plot No A-13 near Crowne Plaza complex housing a hotel and nearly 70 offices in Friends Colony adjoining Okhla.
Power supply to residents of Kalkaji, Okhla and Friends Colony has been discontinued as a precautionary measure.
Fifteen fire tenders rushed to the spot to control the blaze which began at 2:45 pm.
Chief Fire Officer A K Sharma told India TV that the fire aggravated because of presence of nearly 40 to 50,000 litres of oil at the power station.
He said, 18 fire tenders have been sent, the point of fire has been isolated and the situation was under control.
Sharma however did not rule out a blast, if the blaze went out of control. “We can't totally rule out the possibility of a blast”, he said.
The intensity of the fire has been upgraded, and all efforts to douse the blaze are on, he said.
