Hooghly: A minor was killed and two others sustained injuries after a bomb exploded in Bengal’s Hooghly district on Monday, the police said. The incident occurred at Pandua in Hooghly district near a pond where a group of boys were playing.

According to the police, a bomb exploded while a group of teenagers were playing, resulting in three injuries. They were rushed to Pandua Hospital, where, unfortunately, one teenager succumbed to their injuries. The other two were transferred to Chunchura Imambara Hospital due to the severity of their injuries. The Hooghly Rural Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

BJP on blast

Local BJP MP Locket Chatterjee has accused the TMC of being involved in the blast. She claimed that it represents the ruling party's tactic of spreading fear ahead of senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee's campaign in Pandua.

Banerjee, the TMC national general secretary and considered number two in the party, will hold a public meeting later in the day.

The blast came just a day ahead of the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday in West Bengal. Four constituencies in the state will be witnessing voting on May 7.

Maldaha Uttar, Maldaha Dakshin, Jangipur, and Murshidabad is going to polls in the third phase on May 7. A total of 73,37,651 voters, including 36,12,395 women and 154 third-genders, are eligible to exercise their franchise in 7,360 polling stations.
