Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Repolling is underway on Monday at one polling booth each in the Barasat and Mathurapur Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal. The repolling started at 7 am and would continue till 6 pm.

The poll panel said the decision was taken based on reports from the returning officers, the district election officers and observers concerned and after taking "all material circumstances on record".

Repolling will be conducted at THESE booths

As per the order from the poll body, repolling will be conducted at 61 Kadambagachi Saradar Pada FP School, Room No 2 of 120-Deganga Assembly Constituency in 17 Barasat Parliamentary Constituency and 26 Aaddir Mahal Srichaitanya Bidyapith FP School of 131-Kakdwip Assembly Constituency in 20-Mathurapur (SC) Parliamentary Constituency in West Bengal.

All these seats went to the polls in the final phase on June 1.

A voter turnout of 73.79 per cent was recorded in nine Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal that went to polls in the seventh and final phase on Saturday. The results of the elections will be declared on June 4. However, the exit polls predict that BJP may likely prevail over the ruling TMC in Lok Sabha elections by winning about 22-26 seats. TMC may win 14-18 seats.

BJP demand for repoll

The Election Commission's order came in response to demands from the Bengal BJP on Sunday for a repoll in nearly 420 booths in the Diamond Harbour and 11 booths in the Mathurapur Lok Sabha constituencies. The party alleged numerous malpractices and called for a repoll in all 256 booths in Falta.

On June 1, BJP leader and LoP Suvendu Adhikari also alleged malpractice at multiple booths in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat. He said that there was violence during the election in West Bengal. Adhikari added that the BJP is seeking repolls at hundreds of polling booths in Diamond Harbour seat.

Moreover, he accused the state police of working under political motivation in favour of the ruling party. Adhikary alleged that the state police did not cooperate with the CAPF and misguided them the whole day.
