West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose expressed concern over his security due to the presence of the current Kolkata Police contingent at Raj Bhavan. He recently ordered their removal from the premises, but they continue to be stationed there. Governor Bose conveyed to PTI his apprehensions regarding the current officer-in-charge and his team, believing their presence poses a threat to his personal security.

Communication with chief minister

Despite informing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about his security concerns, no action has been taken, according to Bose. He cited ongoing surveillance by police personnel allegedly influenced by external "influencers".

Constitutional concerns and allegations

Bose accused the police of unauthorised surveillance on his movements and staff, allegedly with political backing, which he deemed a violation of constitutional rights.

Historical precedent and official actions

Referring to previous restrictions imposed by his predecessor and himself on Kolkata Police's access to specific areas of Raj Bhavan, Bose highlighted incidents of unauthorised surveillance by police personnel, calling it potentially criminal behaviour.

Call for accountability

Drawing parallels with historical accountability in public office, Bose emphasised that if proven, such activities by the police would require accountability from the Home Minister.

Ongoing developments

The Governor's statements underscore growing tensions between the Raj Bhavan and the state government, prompting further scrutiny and calls for action on security measures.
