PM Modi holds his first roadshow in Kolkata, seeks votes for BJP candidates ahead of final phase of polling

Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi held poll rallies in West Bengal's Barasat and Jadavpur. Nine seats of West Bengal will go to polls in the final phase of Lok Sabha elections on June 1.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held his first roadshow in Kolkata, West Bengal. Prior to that, PM Modi paid tributes at the statue of Subhas Chandra Bose. The PM was accompanied by other BJP leaders, including LoP Shuvendu Adhikari and state BJP chief Sukanta Mazumdar. He held a 2.5 KM roadshow from Shyam Bazar to Shimla Street.

A huge number of supporters crowded the route during the roadshow. People were occupying both sides of the routes since hours ago. Following the roadshow, PM Modi paid a floral tribute to Swami Vivekanand.

Kolkata Police's measure to prevent jam

Notably, the Kolkata Police had issued a traffic advisory to prevent jam in the morning. 

“In view of the public safety and convenience in connection with visit of the Prime Minister of India to the city of Kolkata on 28.05.2024 and 29.05.2024, I, Vineet Kumar Goyal, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, do hereby order that movement and parking of vehicles for the city of Kolkata shall be regulated in the following manner notwithstanding any other orders in force on 28.05.2024 and 29.05.2024,” the traffic police wrote in a statement. 

Earlier, Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also held a roadshow in Kolkata. Notably, Kolkata's Uttar (North) and Dakshin (South) seats along with seven other constituency will go to polls in the last phase on June 1. The results will be declared on June 4.
