A teacher at a private law college in Kolkata has decided not to return to her position after a dispute over wearing a hijab. Sanjida Qadar, who was initially asked not to attend classes with a hijab but was later told she could use a head scarf, announced she would not be rejoining her workplace.

College response and teacher's decision

Qadar informed LJD Law College management via email on Thursday of her decision to explore new opportunities. The college, in an email dated June 10, had stated she could resume her duties while using a dupatta as a head scarf, provided she adhered to the faculty dress code.

Uncomfortable environment

Despite the college's revised stance, Qadar expressed that returning would be uncomfortable for her. She conveyed this sentiment to PTI, stating her belief that seeking new opportunities was the best choice for her career goals at this time.

College's final remarks

The college management responded by honoring her decision and wishing her a prosperous career. Qadar had been wearing the headscarf since Ramzan in April, but the issue escalated over the past week, leading to her final decision.
