Bangladesh shocked Pakistan by bowling them out for 146 on the final day of the opening Test in Rawalpindi and then won the match by 10 wickets. Pakistan not only lost the Test match but faced a six-point penalty too due to a slow over-rate

Pakistan despite a couple of wins in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle, have just 16 points in their name, post the 6-point deduction and have a lot of ground to cover in their remaining eight matches

Prior to the Bangladesh Test series, Pakistan needed to win seven out of their remaining nine matches, but now the Shan Masood-led side may find itself in a must-win position

Pakistan's current PCT is 22.22 and if they have to make it to the WTC final, it should be in the range of 60-plus. If Pakistan win seven out of their remaining eight matches, it will only go up to 59.52 and since they are already trailing so much, it may not be enough for them to qualify

If Pakistan manage to win all eight of their matches, their PCT will shoot up to 66.66, which should be enough for them to qualify. Similarly, Bangladesh after that win, also lost three points but still have room for one loss in their remaining seven Tests

Thus, if Pakistan lose, they are all but out of the race to make it to the WTC final. If they win, they stay in contention and so do Bangladesh if they lose, but will be in must-win position like their opponents

On the other hand, England have followed their memo of winning every single Test they play so far this summer with four wins, but they have to continue winning with eight more Tests to go to have a chance of making it to the final. Sri Lanka on the other hand, need to win six out of their eight remaining games

India and Australia are still at the top with 68.52 and 62.50 PCT in the WTC points table and are still very much favourites to make it through to the final. The upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy will probably be the decisive series for the WTC qualification
