Virat Kohli's struggles in home Tests against spin were exposed to pieces as India lost 3-0 to New Zealand, suffering a first-ever whitewash in a three-match series in India. Kohli aggregated just 93 runs in six innings against the Kiwis

Kohli averages 54.84 against spin at home in Tests. In 147 innings, Kohli has 3,894 runs to his name batting against spin in his Test career in India while being dismissed 71 times. However, that record has come down rather considerably in recent times

Since 2020, the average has come down for Kohli to 30.40. In 39 innings batting against spin at home, Kohli has been out to spin 27 times scoring just 821 runs. India's results on rank turners are directly proportional to diminishing ability of the batters to face and play spin well

Cheteshwar Pujara, on the other hand, averages a colossal 63.20 against spin in home Tests while scoring 3,412 runs in 129 innings

Pujara before losing his place in the side was a warrior-like figure in overseas Tests especially in England and Australia. However, in the latter part of his career, he too struggled against spin

Pujara's average came down to 37.82 as he was dismissed to spin in 17 out of 33 innings. While he still averages more than Kohli against spin at home since 2020, his drop is a touch steeper than that of the Indian stalwart

Ajinkya Rahane has the worst record against spin in home Tests among the three. In 107 innings, Rahane averages 41.96 against spin scoring 2,266 runs

Rahane has been dismissed 54 times by spinners in those 107 innings and he is probably the one among the three, whose numbers haven't dropped as alarmingly as Kohli and Pujara probably because the original record isn't any way that great

Since 2020, Rahane has played only 22 innings at home facing spin and his average is just below Pujara's - 36.42 - while getting out to the slower bowlers seven times. Rahane's average, however, is much better than Kohli's against spin since 2020

Both Pujara and Rahane were given probably the longest rope middle-order batters have gotten in recent times in the Indian side. The time may not be running out for Kohli, however, he will soon have to put up runs. India don't play a Test at home before August next year and before that Kohli has tour of Australia and England to prove himself, yet again
