Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) qualified for the playoffs in the 2024 edition of the IPL with 14 points and a better net run rate than CSK. RCB will be playing the eliminator but they have the momentum with six wins in as many games

RCB became only the 10th team in the IPL to qualify for top four to qualify with 14 points or less. Starting with Deccan Chargers in 2009, CSK and RCB in 2010, Mumbai Indians in 2014 with that epic chase vs RR, Royals in 2018, SRH in 2019 with just 12 points, SRH and RCB in 2020 and KKR in 2021 before. However, only two of them have gone on to win the title. Take a look

Deccan Chargers in 2009 did the unthinkable after qualifying in the fourth spot. Chargers destroyed the then Delhi Daredevils in the semi-final when that was the format with Adam Gilchrist firing on all cylinders

Chargers then went on to beat RCB in the final as Gilchrist's knock in the semi-final played a part in the format of the knockouts being changed to playoffs starting with 2011 as the table-toppers were given an extra chance to get to the final

In the very next year, Chennai Super Kings after finishing fourth with 14 points went on to win the title, beating the arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the final

RCB will hope to join the Deccan Chargers and Chennai Super Kings in the elite list but the journey for teams finishing 3rd and 4th has become difficult as they have to win three in a row to win the trophy
