Rohit Sharma lost his third Test match at home as a captain as India suffered a first defeat against New Zealand at home in 36 years. New Zealand took a 1-0 lead in the series but let's take a look at how India performed under Rohit, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni after 14 Tests each at home-

India have lost three matches at home in the last one and a half years under Rohit Sharma - one each against Australia (Indore, 2023), England (Hyderabad, 2024) and now New Zealand

In 14 Tests under Rohit Sharma as captain at home, India have won 10 matches, drawn just one game and lost three

As compared to Rohit, Virat Kohli lost only two matches as captain at home in his whole stint across 31 Test matches in India

In first 14 of those 31 matches, India won 11 games, drew a couple of them and lost only one game against Australia in Pune in 2017

Virat Kohli, the most successful captain for India in Tests, is also the most successful skipper for the country in home games with 24 wins in 31 matches, five draws and a couple of losses

Under MS Dhoni, India won 21 matches in home Tests, with five draws and three losses and one tie in 30 games

In the first 14 matches as captain in home Tests, Dhoni won nine of them with four draws and just one loss against South Africa in Nagpur in 2010

Dhoni and Kohli lost only one Test each in their first 14 matches as captain at home. Kohli went on to lose only one in next 17 matches as captain and Dhoni two. Rohit, however, has lost three matches so far in 14 games only but now the focus for India will be to come back hard and win the series 2-1 against New Zealand
