Records that Virat Kohli can surpass during World Cup 2023

Virat has aggregated 1030 runs in World Cups and can break into the top three all-time leading run-getters in the history of the tournament.

Virat has smashed two tons in the tournament's history and requires four more centuries to draw level with Rohit Sharma who has hit the joint-most centuries (6) in World Cups.

Virat has eight 50+ scores in the tournament and can become the player with the second-most fifty-plus totals (behind Sachin Tendulkar) if he hits five more half-centuries.

As of now, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for scoring the most runs (673) in a single edition of the ODI World Cup but given the kind of pedigree, Virat has he can surpass that tally in the 2023 edition.

Virat can become the only Indian player to score two centuries against Pakistan in ODI World Cup history. He already has one that came during the 2015 edition in Adelaide.

If Virat goes on to play nine matches during this World Cup then he will leapfrog Javagal Srinath to become the Indian with the second-most appearances in ODI World Cups behind Sachin Tendulkar (45 matches).

Virat has scored 47 ODI centuries and is two behind Sachin who holds the record of scoring the most number of tons in ODI cricket. Virat is likely to break the Master Blaster's record during the World Cup.

Currently the top-four leading run-getters in ODI cricket are Sachin (18426), Sangakkara (14234), Ponting (13704) and Jayasuriya (13430). Virat is fifth with 13083 runs and can overtake Jayasuriya during the World Cup.

If India are crowned champions then Virat alongside Ravi Ashwin will become the only two Indians to be a part of two successful World Cup-winning campaigns.

If Virat is as agile as he usually is then he can close in on Ricky Ponting who holds the record of taking the most catches (28) in World Cup history. Virat currently has 14 to his credit.
