Sanju Samson is back into the Indian team for the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan at the expense of Ishan Kishan and it seems like his ODI century might have hit two birds with one stone

Samson doesn't have a great T20 record where he averages 19 but sporadic chances might be one of the reasons. In the last 10 T20Is, he has scored just 218 runs

Those 218 runs came at an average of 27.25 and a strike rate of 146 including a highest score of 77. However, since Samson is in the squad with first-choice players for the first time, he would be eager to make a mark with T20 World Cup in sight

Ishan Kishan's numbers, however, are worse than Samson in his last 10 T20I innings

Ishan played 11 T20Is in 2023 as he got regular chances but failed to make the most of them as despite a couple of fifties, he has scored a total of 170 runs in his last 10 knocks

Kishan's 170 runs came at an average of 17 and a strike rate of 109.67. With Samson making a mark in ODIs, Kishan has to have an extraordinary IPL to make a comeback into the T20 team

Sanju Samson is in the side for now, with Jitesh Sharma being the third option, however, IPL could be the deciding factor as to which two players make the final squad as wicketkeepers
