Shubman Gill is down with dengue and is set to miss the match against Australia on October 8.
This has opened up a chance for Ishan Kishan to open with Rohit Sharma in India's World Cup opener against Australia.
Kishan has so far played 886 runs in 25 ODIs he has played for India.
However, he has opened the innings on seven occasions scoring 448 runs.
Kishan has scored these runs at an average of 74.66
Kishan's career-best score of 210 also came while opening the innings against Bangladesh in December 2022.
The southpaw has also smashed three half-centuries at the top. All of those came in back to back innings against West Indies away from home.
It remains to be seen how Ishan Kishan will perform on his World Cup debut opening the innings against Australia.
