Harry Brook, probably the next England captain across all formats, or at least in white-ball cricket, will begin his captaincy journey with the ODI series against Australia, a format he has played the least in

Brook has played just 15 ODIs scoring 407 runs. However, it is the T20Is where the 25-year-old has flourished for England. Even in the recent T20 World Cup, Brook played a couple of outstanding knocks and was the lone man fighting for his side

Brook has a strike rate of 146.7 in 39 T20Is for England while scoring 707 runs including three fifties. Since Brook has become a first-choice in Test matches, the red-ball cricket has become his favourite format

Brook missed the India series earlier due to personal reasons. However, despite not touring India, he has travelled well including three centuries in Pakistan. Brook has 1558 runs to his name in Test matches at an average of 53.8 including five hundreds and nine half-centuries

Shubman Gill, who is likely to miss the T20 series, has a lot of work to do in the shortest format. Gill has started well and is on the up but has a long way to go, given that selectors are seeing him as the next captain

Gill, who even has a double hundred to his name, has taken to international cricket like fish to water, especially in the ODIs which is contrast to Brook, who has a lot of work to do in the format. Gill averages 58 in 47 matches scoring 2,328 runs while striking at over 100

Gill, who started as an opener in Test cricket, has come down to No 3 and even though he took a few innings to find his footing, he did well in the England series. In Tests, Gill averages 35.52 scoring 1,492 runs and is slowly getting into his own in red-ball cricket

Since Gill has become vice-captain in white-ball cricket, he is already being seen as the next big thing but he has a long way to go, especially in Tests and T20Is

Harry Brook is probably the batter right now which teams fear in Tests and T20Is and ODIs are Gill's strong point. However, there is no doubt that both will go on to lead their teams in multiple formats and might be fighting for the numero uno position
