Shubman Gill's poor run at No.3 in Tests continued as the right-handed batter was dismissed for another low score in the first match against Afghanistan in Hyderabad

Gill, who had a torrid time in South Africa in two Test matches struggled to rotate strike and went into his shell in the first Test in Hyderabad against England before getting out on 23

The Gill experiment at No 3 hasn't worked for India as yet. Gill averages 23.62 at No. 3 in Test cricket but it reduces to 20.82 if counted when he started batting regularly in that position

Gill's first experience of batting at No. 3 was against New Zealand in Mumbai in 2021 when he scored 47 runs, which is his highest score in this position so far

Gill has scored 189 runs in 9 innings (one not out) so far at No. 3 and even though there is no replacement for him as such in the squad, he will need to come up with a better show
