AUS vs WI: Steve Smith eyes major career milestone against West Indies in Adelaide

Australia cricketer Steve Smith is set to open the innings for the first time in his career in the first Test against West Indies in Adelaide.

He will be replacing David Warner at the top with Cameron Green taking his place at number four. Smith is coming off a relatively quiet series against Pakistan in three Tests.

He could muster only 194 runs in six innings at an average of 38.80 and only one half-century to his name. The numbers are pretty mediocre by Smith's standards.

However, he would want to do all the right things against the Caribbean side and will look to complete 16000 runs in international cricket.

The 34-year-old is only 51 runs away from going past the 16000-run mark in his international career and will become seventh Australian to do so when he reaches the milestone

So far, Smith has amassed 15949 runs in 379 innings at an average of 64.37 with 44 centuries and 77 fifties to his name.

After a disappointing series vs Pakistan, Smith will be hoping to turn things around against the Windies having amassed 752 runs in 11 innings in Tests against them so far.
