India lost the 2023 World Cup to Australia as the Aussies clinched their 5th title in Ahmedabad.
Virat Kohli became the ninth player to win the Player of the Tournament award since it was introduced in the 1992 WC.
Kohli is just the 5th to win it in a losing cause. Here is the complete list.
1 - New Zealand's Martin Crowe was the first to win it in a losing cause in 1992 when Pakistan won the World Cup.
2 - South Africa's Lance Klusener won the Player of the Tournament award in 1999 when Australia won the title
3 - India's Sachin Tendulkar won the award in 2003 when India lost the final to Australia
4 - New Zealand's Kane Williamson won it in 2019 when New Zealand lost to England in the final
5 - Virat Kohli gets added to the list in India's heartbreak final loss to Australia in 2023
Kohli is also the third Indian to win the award. Yuvraj is the only one who won it in 2011 when India won the title 12 years ago
