It is a serious drop in Dhoni's IPL salary and the biggest among 45 retentions of all 10 teams. Dhoni was placed in second bracket in the previous three-year cycle. Hence, there's a 66.67 per cent drop from INR 12 crore to 4 crore

Rahul Tewatia too was retained by Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction as an uncapped player at INR 4 crore, however, at a much lower valuation

Being one of the best Indian finishers in the IPL for quite some time now, Tewatia had several franchises going after him in 2022 before the Titans lapped him up for INR 9 crore. Hence, it was surprise that Tewatia agreed for a INR 4 crore retention because there is a 55.56 per cent drop in his salary

The final name and the only overseas player on the list is Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins. Cummins was handed the top retention by SRH at INR 18 crore but still finds himself on the pay-cut list, tells you how significant his auction price was in the last season

Tewatia's GT teammate Shahrukh Khan was the second uncapped retention for the 2022 champions. After being released by Punjab Kings before 2024 edition, Shahrukh was picked by GT for INR 7.4 crore at the auction. However, he too has suffered a 54.05 per cent cut in his salary to INR 4 crore

Cummins became the second-most expensive player in IPL history last season after a INR 20.5 crore bid from SRH. Cummins has suffered a minimal 12.19 per cent drop from INR 20.5 crore to 18 crore with Heinrich Klaasen getting the big bucks at INR 23 crore
