As many as five teams released their captains ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction including the marquee names like Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer while some of those who retained their skipper chose to give their captain a second retention price tag in place of first to keep certain players and avoid ego tussles. Take a look-

Hardik Pandya, who took the joint-top draft spot at the Gujarat Titans with Rashid Khan, decided to take the joint-second spot alongside Suryakumar Yadav for Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025

Since there are as many as three captains in the side, all of them decided to give Jasprit Bumrah the top price tag of INR 18 crore while Hardik, who will continue to lead MI, and Surya, the current Indian T20I captain, were placed second at INR 16.35 crore with Rohit Sharma at fourth spot at INR 16.30 crore

On the other hand, captain Pat Cummins retained the top retention spot for Sunrisers Hyderabad, however, there was a difference in the price tag

Since the fourth capped retention allowed an equal price bracket to the top one, SRH decided to reward South African wicketkeeper batter Heinrich Klaasen a heft paycheck of INR 23 crore while ensuring everyone got what they deserved

Last but not the least, Shubman Gill too agreed for a second retention spot as well as the price tag for the Gujarat Titans for the benefit of the team

Something Sunrisers Hyderabad weren't able to do in 2022, Gujarat Titans have done once again - provide Rashid Khan the top spot in terms of price bracket at INR 18 crore. Rashid shared the INR 15 crore salary tag with Hardik Pandya but this time he solely was at the top with Gill settling for INR 16.5 crore salary

The other two teams which retained their captains, did so at the top price bracket. Ruturaj Gaikwad took home the INR 18 crore salary for the Chennai Super Kings and the same did Sanju Samson for the Rajasthan Royals. However, the second retention spot in terms of price bracket had an equal payday for both teams - Ravindra Jadeja for CSK and Yashasvi Jaiswal for RR
