Several countries are very dangerous for women, be it travelling alone or in a group. The World Population Review's Women’s Danger Index attempts to cast a light on these countries.

South Africa: It ranks as the top most dangerous country for solo women travellers due to its notoriety for sexual violence and its worst record of intentional homicide of women.

Brazil - It has the third-highest rate of intentional homicide against women and also has a high percentage of sexual violence from intimate partners.

Russia - It ranks second in the world in intentional homicides against women and has laws to limit women's ability to participate in society and the economy.

Mexico - It ranks fourth overall for the most dangerous countries for women, as well as ranking fourth for the percentage of women who feel unsafe walking at night.

Iran - It has the highest gender cap among all countries and ranks third for legal discrimination against women due to its strict laws, including on hijab.

Dominican Republic - It has the fifth-lowest percentage of women who feel safe walking alone at night and also has the fifth-highest rate of intentional homicides.

Egypt - This country also features on the list due to a wide gender gap and laws to limit the ability of women to participate in the society and economy.

Morocco - Here, nearly half of the women have experienced physical or sexual violence from their intimate partner, the highest percentage on the list, and it has also has high legal discrimination against women.

Thailand - Thailand ranks second for intimate partner violence and more than half of the women believe that violence is justified under certain conditions.

Malaysia - It is also one of the worst Asian countries for solo woman travellers due to intimate partner violence and high gender inequality.
