Ahead of the meeting, Priyanka offered prayers on the banks of the stream Narmada in Jabalpur, alongside state Congress chief Kamal Nath and other party leaders.

Priyanka referred to the party's recent victories in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh, saying that the two states had "given a fitting" response to the BJP.

There are a significant number of tribal voters in the state's Mahakoshal region, which is centered in Jabalpur. The city is known as Madhya Pradesh's cultural capital.

Priyanka chose Jabalpur to launch the party's election campaign, according to Congress leader Vivek Tankha, because Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra did not pass through the area, Tankha said.
