Rohit, who led Mumbai Indians to their fifth IPL title this year, flew down to Australia in mid-December days before the start of the Test series. Ahead of the third Test, head coach Ravi Shastri said that the team management will have a chat with the opener before taking a call over his availability.

Australia, after dismissing India for 326 in the first innings, are in a tricky situation, having lost six wickets on just 133 runs. Cameron Green (17) and Pat Cummins (15) will be in the middle at the start of Day 4.
Stand-in India captain Ajinkya Rahane slammed his 12th Test ton to put the visitors in a commanding position at the MCG. On the second day of the Boxing Day clash against Australia, Rahane, leading the side in Virat Kohli's absence, flaunted his textbook batting technique to put India in the driver's seat. Rahane also became only the second Indian skipper to score a Test century at the MCG. In the first innings, Jadeja stuck in the middle with stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane as the two built a century stand. Jadeja scored 57 while Rahane gathered 112. Jadeja, so far, has also picked up three wickets in the match along with taking a brilliant running catch on Day 1.
India got a foot in the door of the second Test after they reduced Australia to 133 for six wickets in their second innings at the end of the third day's play in the second Test at the MCG. The Aussies are ahead of India by just two runs and have four wickets in hand. India are yet to bat in the second innings. After Rahane's spectacular show in the first innings, India will be hoping to seal the victory on the fourth day of the Boxing Day Test.
India skipper Ajinkya Rahane played a captain's knock to score his 12th Test century and help India take control of the second Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). India ended the second day's play, comfortably placed at 277/5, 82 runs ahead of the hosts Aussies who were bowled out for 195 in the first innings on Saturday.
Rahane was unbeaten on 104 while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was with him at the crease on 40, the two having added an unbeaten 104 for the sixth wicket.
