Myanmar marks 77th Independence Day with release of 6,000 prisoners and sentence reductions

Myanmar's military government released over 6,000 prisoners and reduced sentences for others as part of a mass amnesty to mark the 77th anniversary of independence. However, only a small number of political detainees, imprisoned for opposing the 2021 coup, were included.
