The Uttar Pradesh government is set to launch an awareness campaign to promote the Centre's 'PM Surya Ghar Yojana'—a rooftop solar subsidy scheme—in the cities of Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur. This new initiative aims to complement the state's ongoing efforts to enhance solar energy generation and utilisation.

The campaign will utilise the Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) approach. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directive, the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Agency (UPNEDA) has started implementing the action plan, as per an official statement.

The state has earmarked Rs 2 crore for this two-month campaign and is in the process of hiring an agency to manage and execute it. Initially, UPNEDA will target Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur to raise public awareness and increase the number of beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana.

Promotional activities will include displaying banners, installing billboards at strategic locations, setting up booth camps, and distributing pamphlets at various events in universities, colleges, and schools. Additionally, UPNEDA will use radio and newspaper advertisements in these cities.

Ayodhya and Varanasi are already being developed as solar cities, and this campaign aims to extend solar energy awareness and promotion to Gorakhpur. Officials noted that a solar city could meet at least 10 per cent of its energy demand through solar power.
