Uttar Pradesh: Not onion but soaring prices of tomatoes in several parts of the country have made people cry for it. Amid this, vegetable vendors are trying their best to protect the stock from being stolen or looted. Meanwhile, a shocking but interesting incident has caught the attention of people, where a Samajwadi Party worker Ajay Fauji who is also a vegetable vendor hired bouncers to keep customers at bay when they come to buy tomatoes, whose price has increased massively over the past few days. This act is being considered an apparent attempt to score political points.

Vendor hired bouncers

In a purported video from Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh, two bouncers were seen trying their best to keep the customers, who are coming to buy vegetables, at bay. However, Ajay Fauji is said to be a worker of the Samajwadi Party, who had earlier cut a tomato-shaped cake in Varanasi on the birthday of Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav.

Concerned with the incidents where people are indulging in violence and even looting tomatoes, Fauji said that he hired bouncers because the price of tomatoes is too high.

People are indulging in violence and even looting tomatoes

"I have hired bouncers because the tomato price is too high. People are indulging in violence and even looting tomatoes. Since we have tomatoes in the shop, we don't want any arguments, so we have bouncers here. Tomatoes are selling for Rs 160 per kg. People are buying 50 or 100 gms," the vendor, Ajay Fauji, told PTI.

"I kept hearing about arguments over the tomato price among people. People at my shop too tried to haggle. So to put an end to the constant arguments, I decided to deploy bouncers in uniform at my cart," Fauji added.

Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at Centre

Sharing a picture of the Varanasi grocer and his bouncers on his Twitter account, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at Centre for the soaring prices of tomatoes, which have made it virtually a luxury item. Taking to Twitter, he said, "The BJP should provide 'Z-Plus' security to tomatoes."
