Rain havoc in Uttar Pradesh: The continuous rains in Uttar Pradesh have caused severe waterlogging in the state capital Lucknow and other districts. The weather conditions in Lucknow have deteriorated since last night. The entire city is facing waterlogging issues due to heavy rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning, urging people to stay indoors and remain alert. The advisory mentions the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas and advises people to steer clear of unsafe buildings and avoid contact with trees. In response to the weather situation, all schools up to the 12th grade have been temporarily closed.
IMD predicts more rain
There is a possibility of heavy rain and lightning in Lucknow even today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted scattered rainfall or thunderstorms with isolated heavy rainfall activity across the state.
The District Magistrate has additionally released an advisory, urging individuals to remain indoors. There is concern that besides heavy rainfall, there might also be intense lightning. As a result, people have been advised to venture outside only when it is necessary.
According to the Met Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain with severe storms and lightning in Bahraich, Barabanki, Gonda, Hardoi, Lakhimpur-Kheeri, Lucknow, and Sitapur in the next three hours.
As the water level in Gomti River rises due to incessant rains, District Magistrate Surya Pratap Gangwar said, "For the water management in Gomti River we are doing inspection so that we can know how to drain out the water from city area...We have opened two gates and are going to open two more gates again...So that water from the city can be drained...There are some low-lying areas. Our team from the Municipal Council is working in every area of Lucknow. Hopefully, we will soon resolve the problem of water logging."
Keep these things in mind
The meteorological department has issued an advisory due to the heavy rainfall, warning that flood-like situations could arise. In such circumstances, it is recommended to stay indoors in pucca house only. Traffic jams may occur due to the heavy rain, so consider carefully before leaving home. Water levels in drains may rise, so maintain a safe distance from them. Additionally, keep away from bridges built over lower levels of water.
Waterlogging in parts of state
Due to torrential rains in Lucknow, many places are flooded. Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob took stock of the situation in the city. Following the heavy rain that has persisted since late last night in Lucknow, local authorities have taken control of the situation. Lucknow Commissioner is on-site, conducting inspections in areas where reports of waterlogging have been received.
In Moradabad as well, the city has experienced continuous rainfall since yesterday, resulting in extensive waterlogging in most areas. The city's drainage system is overwhelmed, causing the roads to be inundated with water, leading to commuting difficulties for residents. Furthermore, the heavy rainfall has caused waterlogging between the tracks at the railway station, submerging the railway line. According to the Meteorological Department, similar heavy rainfall is expected for the next 24 hours.
CM Yogi issued advisory
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the officials of the concerned districts to conduct relief work with full promptness in view of the rain. He said that officers should visit the area and keep an eye on the relief work. The permissible relief amount should be distributed immediately to the people affected by the disaster.
The Chief Minister has also given instructions that in case of waterlogging, effective arrangements should be made for drainage. The water level of the rivers should be continuously monitored. The damage caused to the crops should be assessed and the report should be made available to the government so that compensation can be made available to the affected farmers as per the rules.
