A tragic incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida last Thursday when a stray dog was thrown from the seventh floor of the Vihaan Heritage Sapphire Society in Sector 1. The dog died instantly upon hitting the ground.

Incident unveiled through CCTV footage

The incident came to light after Surbhi Rawat, president of People for Animals and a Ghaziabad resident, shared CCTV footage of the dog’s fall on X (formerly Twitter). “People living in Vihaan Heritage Sapphire Society in Greater Noida Sector 1 took the dog to the roof under the pretext of feeding it and threw it down from the top, resulting in the dog’s immediate death,” Rawat wrote. She was alerted to the incident by Sushmita Jaiswal, a dog feeder and resident of the society.

Unidentified perpetrator

It remains unclear who threw the dog from the building. Station House Officer (Bisrakh) Arvind Kumar stated that no FIR has been filed yet, and the police are currently investigating the CCTV footage to identify the culprit.

Community reaction and further incidents

Jaiswal reported that a society member informed her of the incident around 11:30 am on June 20. The security guard took a picture of the deceased dog and shared it on the society's WhatsApp group. Jaiswal then sought CCTV footage, which took two days to obtain and only showed the ground floor.

Jaiswal noted, “We were used to feeding these dogs. She was a smart and sensible dog. The boundary walls of the terrace are four feet tall, so the dog couldn’t have jumped on her own.” She suggested that the dog had been deliberately thrown.

Jaiswal also recounted a previous incident from two months ago, where another female dog died after being hit multiple times by a car in the same society, resulting in broken legs and ribs.
