The great-great-granddaughter of the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr. Geeta Patel, said that cancer medicine will be manufactured in India for the first time with the help of new technology. Medicine for cancer patients will be created and produced in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, said Dr. Gita Patel.
"Medication will be completely evolved and produced in the state. The focus is more on cancers of the gut, pancreas, cervical, and ovarian,” stated Dr. Gita Patel, director of Carpe Diem E, who had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Uttar Pradesh at the Global Investors' Summit that was held in February of this year, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
"Our investment will really depend on $ 3 million in the first stage and $12.7 million in the following stage. It will go up to $30 million by stage three," said Dr. Patel in a public interview. A lab and office have been established at Lucknow's Biotech Park, and a manufacturing facility will be built on Barabanki Road.
"Until the phase one trial, all research work will be done in the lab. In order to conduct human trials, we intend to complete phase one within six to nine months. Before we actually manufacture and market the drug, we can conduct human trials once all research standards have been met,” she added.
Asked about the support from the government, she said, "As we came for venture and marked the MoU, we had a devoted staff part to track down answer for every one of our requirements and with a smooth system of stepwise cycle we are currently putting resources into UP."
