Uttar Pradesh rains: As many as 14 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours as various rivers breached their danger mark, officials said on Thursday (Jul y13).
Due to the torrential monsoon rains that lashed the state, River Ganga crossed the red mark at the Kachhla bridge in the Budaun district, according to a report from Central Water Commission (CWC).
The report said that the Yamuna River is also flowing above the danger level at Mavi in Shamli.
"A total of 14 persons have died due to rain-related incidents in the state in the past 24 hours since 6 pm on Wednesday," the Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner said in a statement.

“While three persons each died due to lightning at Siddharth Nagar and Shravasti, one was killed in Sultanpur when lightning struck him,” it added.
Four persons died by drowning - two in Barabanki, one each in Raebareli and Hardoi, while three persons - one in Saharanpur and two in Barabanki - died in other rain-related incidents, the statement said.
As many as 2.31 lakh people in Uttar Pradesh, including 2.27 lakh only in Saharanpur district, have suffered due to the floods so far.
According to the CWC report, Sambhal was the wettest place in the state with a rainfall of 21 cm in the past 24 hours, followed by Bijnor which recorded 15 cm, and Saharanpur 13 cm.
According to the Met Office, rainfall in the state will continue till July 18.
Trains cancelled
Amid waterlogging in several parts of India, over 300 mail and express trains and more than 400 passenger trains have been cancelled over the last few days between July 7 and 13, officials said on Thursday.
Northwestern India has witnessed continuous rainfall from July 8. Several states including Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan witnessed ‘heavy to extremely heavy’ downpours, resulting in massive damage to infrastructure and disruption in essential services in places like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.
Around 300 mail and express trains were cancelled by the Northern Railways, while 191 were diverted. Nearly 67 trains were short-originated, according to the officials.
