Uttar Pradesh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Addressed the 'One World TB Summit' and launched various initiatives including the TB-Mukt Panchayat initiative; official pan-India rollout of a shorter TB Preventive Treatment (TPT); Family-centric care model for TB and the release of India’s Annual TB Report 2023 in Varanasi on Friday.
One World TB Summit
On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, PM Modi addressed the One World TB Summit. This summit was organised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and Stop TB Partnership. Founded in 2001, the Stop TB Partnership is a United Nations-hosted organisation that amplifies the voices of the people, communities, and countries affected by TB.
At the Summit, PM Modi said, "It is a matter of happiness that this summit is happening in Kashi. Some time ago, India also took the initiative to take forward the vision of 'One Earth, One Health' and now through 'One World TB Summit' India is fulfilling another resolution of Global Good." He further said, "In the last 9 years, India has worked together on many fronts in this fight against TB. India has done a great job in the fight against TB through people's participation."
During the event, Prime Minister launched various initiatives including the TB-Mukt Panchayat initiative; official pan-India rollout of a shorter TB Preventive Treatment (TPT); Family-centric care model for TB and release of India’s Annual TB Report 2023. Prime Minister also awarded select States/UTs and Districts for their progress towards ending TB.
PM Modi laid foundation stones and inaugurated 28 development projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid foundation stones and inaugurated 28 development projects worth over Rs 1,780 crore in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. During a programme at the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University ground here, Modi laid the foundation stones in presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel.
Passenger ropeway from Varanasi Cantonment station to Godowlia
He laid the foundation stone of the passenger ropeway from Varanasi Cantonment station to Godowlia. The project is estimated to cost Rs 645 crore. The 3.75-kilometre ropeway system will have five stations and facilitate the ease of movement for tourists, pilgrims and residents.
55 MLD sewage treatment plant
Modi also laid the foundation stone of a 55 MLD (million litres per day) sewage treatment plant at Bhagwanpur under the Namami Gange scheme. The project will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore.
Sigra Stadium
Under the Khelo India scheme, Modi laid the foundation stone of the Phase 2 and Phase 3 redevelopment work of Sigra Stadium.
19 drinking water schemes
He also dedicated 19 drinking water schemes that will benefit over three lakh people in 63 panchayats under the Jal Jeevan Mission. To further strengthen the rural drinking water system, the prime minister laid the foundation stone of 59 drinking water schemes under the mission.
