A massive controversy erupted after a man filed a complaint against Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya’s daughter alleging that Sanghamitra Maurya had married him and then got remarried to somebody else without divorcing him. The man, identified as Deepak Kumar Swarnakar, claimed that Sanghamitra had declared herself unmarried in her election affidavit, which is false. He filed the complaint against five people, including the SP leader, for assault and intimidation. Lucknow's MP MLA court has summoned all the accused on 6 January 2024.
What did the man allege?
Deepak alleged that Sanghamitra's father Swami Prasad Maurya and others thrashed him and threatened to kill him. In his application filed in the court, he claimed that in 2019, he married Sanghamitra at his residence. He also claims that Sanghamitra's marriage should have been done with divorce after her first marriage. The case of assault and intimidation is in MP MLA court.
Deepak and Sanghamitra got married on January 3, 2019 after being in a live-in relationship for a long time, under the knowledge of the family.
Sanghamitra’s election affidavit
Deepak alleged that even after marriage, Sanghamitra had declared herself unmarried in the election affidavit of May 2019. Sanghamitra Maurya is a BJP MP from Badayu in UP and Deepak Kumar is a journalist by profession.
