In a significant move, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel announced on Friday (July 19) the formation of the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (SCR). This decision comes under the authority of sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region and Other Regions Development Authority Ordinance, 2024.

About 'Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region'

The newly designated SCR will encompass six districts: Lucknow, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Sitapur, and Hardoi, covering a total area of 27,860 square kilometers. This expansive region aims to foster coordinated development efforts.

About 'Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region Development Authority'

To manage and oversee the development of this region, the government has established the 'Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region Development Authority.' This central body will ensure efficient collaboration between various agencies and departments involved in the urbanization process.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh will chair the Authority, with the Chief Secretary acting as the Vice-Chairman and the Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Planning Department as the convening member. The Authority’s membership will also include Divisional Secretaries, Additional Chief Secretaries, and Secretaries from key departments, as well as the District Magistrates of the six districts and the vice-chairmen of development authorities.

Additionally, representatives from the Government of India and the Ministry of Defence will participate as members. Major city and village planning officials will hold ex-officio membership roles. The Divisional Commissioner of Lucknow will serve as the Secretary of the SCR Authority, ensuring smooth administration and implementation of development plans.
