Lucknow: A former BJP MP’s son died in Lucknow’s SGPGI Hospital, allegedly because of shortage of beds at the Emergency Ward after which the leader sat on protest on the spot with his son’s body beside him till the government suspended the concerned doctor. Former BJP MP Bhairon Prasad Mishra took his son Prakash Mishra, who was suffering from a kidney disease, to SGPGI’s Emergency Ward at around 11 pm on Sunday. According to Mishra’s claims, there was no bed available and the Emergency medical officer did not do anything to help in the arrangement of bed, which allegedly led to his son’s death shortly after.
Mishra later sat on a protest outside the ward with the body of his son.
The hospital authorities assured strict action into the matter and constituted a three-member committee to probe the matter.
"The doctor told him to take him to the ICU but there were no beds available. I don't know why it was said. We have formed a committee and strict action will be taken. The doctor has been suspended as of now," hospital chief Dr RK Dhiman said.
Political leaders jump into the matter
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav hit out at the state government over the incident and asked if the son of a former MP is not getting treatment, how it is being provided to the general public.
“It is not about a particular person dying due to lack of treatment, it is also about the value of the life of every common citizen. When even the son of a former MP of the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh is not getting treatment, then what to say about the general public. Hopefully, after returning from election campaigning in other states, the BJP ministers of Uttar Pradesh will take cognizance of this because right now elections are more important for them than anyone's life,” he posted on X, formerly Twitter.
What did the government say?
State Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that a high level inquiry has been ordered and the doctor concerned has been relieved.
“Regarding the sad demise of the son of former MP, Honorable Bhairon Prasad Mishra ji in PGI, Lucknow @upgovt has ordered a high level inquiry. The doctor concerned, who was found guilty in the prima facie investigation, is being relieved from the institute. A warning has also been issued to the Director, PGI, to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future,” he posted on X.
An investigation into the matter is underway.
