In a tragic accident, five people, including a 5-year-old boy, were killed on Saturday after an Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw in Firozabad.
All the deceased were travelling in the autorickshaw, according to Police. Meanwhile, six other people, also travelling in the auto-rickshaw, were injured in the accident, they said.
The injured were swiftly rushed to the hospital and the bus driver was detained following the accident.
Revealing the identities of deceased, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sarvesh Kumar Mishra said three people — Sapna (30), Anil (28), Kartik (5) -- died on the spot when the UPSRTC bus collided with their auto-rickshaw.
While two other passengers – Kartik's mother Renu (26) and auto driver Monu (22) — succumbed to injuries in the hospital, ASP Mishra said. The ASP said that further investigation is underway.
Similar incidents on May 26
The incident comes in less than a week of similar incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhmipur-Kheri, where five people, including a child, lost their lives while 7 others were injured after a UPSRTC bus collided with a van.
The collision occurred at the Nakaha-Shankarpur highway under Kheri Police Station area on May 26. Responding to the tragic accident, Kheri District Magistrate Mahendra Bahadur Singh and Superintendent of Police Ganesh Prasad Saha rushed the spot and took stock of the situation. They also visited the hospital and reviewed the injured persons' treatment.
On the same day, Uttar Pradesh witnessed another major accident where 12 people died after a truck turtled over a bus of devotees in Shahjahanpur. On May 26, the bus bound for Purnagiri pilgrimage was parked near a dhaba and some of the devotees were having food, while others were inside the bus. Apart from 12 deceased, 10 people were also injured.
