Uttar Pradesh: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday visited Prayagraj for a special purpose as he handed over the flats to the poor, built on land confiscated from slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, in Prayagraj. According to reports, he handed over the keys to 76 of these flats, which were constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). On arriving, CM Adiyanath interacted with the children on the site and then inspected the newly built flats.
While addressing the people here, CM Yogi Adityanath said, "...A unique initiative has been taken forward today, from Prayagraj. Keys to flats, built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, on the land confiscated from the mafia are being handed over to 76 families...This is the same state where prior to 2017, mafia used to encroach upon the land of poor, businessmen & government. But now housing units are being built on the land freed from the mafia...I tell all the officials today, to build such housing units on land freed from the mafia in their respective areas. This will instil confidence in people..."
A beneficiary said, "It feels great. I could never have imagined that I will get my own house. Now nobody will tell me to leave from here..."
Earlier on June 9, CM Yogi Adityanath allotted a total of seventy-six flats built on the land seized from the possession of Atiq Ahmad to the poor people through a lottery system.
Speaking at the programme, PDA vice-chairman Arvind Chauhan said, "We had got the land seized from Atiq Ahmed in the city where he resided and also used to run his office." The Authority had completed the construction of 76 flats on this land and these units were allotted through lottery. According to the guidelines of the government, flats were allotted on the basis of the reservation rules for Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, physically challenged and senior citizens, Chouhan said.
Each flat is equipped with modern facilities and has a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, a toilet, a bathroom, a balcony, electricity, sewerage and parking facility, he said.
