In a tragic incident, a bus carrying students and teachers from a private college in Basti district overturned and fell into a ditch in the Aurai area of Bhadohi on Sunday evening. According to police reports, 30 people, including students and educators, sustained injuries in the accident. The passengers, comprising students from classes 9, 10, and 11 of Vivekanand Inter College in Duboulia Bazar area, Basti district, were on a two-day educational tour to Varanasi, Sarnath, Kashi, and Vindhyachal. The bus, carrying 48 passengers, was returning to Basti from Vindhyachal when the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the tragic incident.
Circle Officer Umeshwar Prabhat Singh provided details, explaining that the bus broke through the roadside railing and plunged into a ditch. Passersby, upon hearing the passengers' screams, promptly informed the police and actively participated in rescuing the trapped individuals. The windows of the bus were broken to facilitate the rescue efforts.
The injured, numbering 30, were swiftly taken to the Community Health Center for medical attention. Authorities reported that all the injured individuals are currently out of danger. Disturbingly, the bus driver fled the scene following the incident.
The accident highlights the need for vigilance and safety measures during educational trips, prompting concerns about the condition of roads and the importance of driver responsibility. Authorities are likely to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, seeking to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of students and travelers on such journeys in the future.
