Lucknow: As many as seven Rohingyas, including four women, were arrested from Kanpur by the Anti Terror Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly illegally entering India from Bangladesh, said an official statement issued on Monday (May 8). The ATS has also arrested an Indian broker who allegedly facilitated their illegal in the country.
According to the official statement, the arrests were made during the ongoing drive against the illegal Bangladeshi migrants and Rohingyas by the ATS. "The ATS received an intelligence input that the members of a gang involved in crossing the border illegally have brought some Rohingyas by crossing the India-Bangladesh border from the Tripura border," it said.
"Eight persons, including 7 Rohingyas and a resident of Tripura state, were arrested by the ATS team near Jhakarkati bus stand in Kanpur Nagar district on Sunday evening,” the statement reads. The arrested accused includes four Rohingya women, one broker, three men and one Indian broker hailing from Tripura state.
A case has been lodged against them at ATS police station in Lucknow under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 14 Foreigners Act (knowingly using a forged passport for entering into India or remaining therein without the authority of law).
During interrogation, the names of brokers Anwar, Vimal Miyan from Tripura, Yasmeen and Tayyub from Jammu and Kashmir, Zahid Alam and Zubair, citizens of Bangladesh were revealed.
Those arrested include Subir Shabdkar (35), a resident of Unakoti in Tripura and Mohammad Zakaria (38), a native of Akyab district in Myanmar currently residing in Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir. Also, Noor Mustafa (20), Shoaib (19), Noor Habiba (21), Farsa (20), Razia (19) and Sabkur Nahar (20) have been arrested. They all are residents of different districts in Myanmar and were currently living in different refugee camps in Bangladesh.
The "broker" involved in the racket told the ATS that his gand used to bring Rohingyas from Myanmar to Bangladesh and make arrangements for their stay in refugee camps in Bangladesh. Later, they used to bring them to India from West Bengal, Assam and Tripura borders. From the Tripura border, these Rohingya were brought to Guwahati by rail and then sent to West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, Punjab and Jammu Kashmir, where their fake documents were prepared, the ATS said.
They are immigrated to different places by preparing forged Indian documents and these Rohingya are supported by their relatives, who have managed to stay in India, it said. A detailed probe is on in the matter.
