An additional fuel tank belonging to an Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar jet crash-landed in Uttar Pradesh's Sant Kabir Nagar district on Monday after being jettisoned due to a 'technical malfunction' in the aircraft during a training mission.
According to Central Air Command based in Prayagraj, no damage to life and property was reported as the fuel tank of the IAF Jaguar aircraft crash-landed in Sant Kabir Nagar.
"A fighter aircraft was airborne for a training mission from Gorakhpur. The aircraft experienced technical malfunction which necessitated jettisoning of external stores. There was no damage to life or property in the process," tweeted the CEC
The aircraft took off from Gorakhpur during a training mission when it experienced a malfunction. An IAF official told PTI that the 'jettisoning of external stores' was done for "operational reasons" to ensure the safety of the aircraft.
"The aircraft took off from Gorakhpur on Monday. However, it had to jettison some of its external store elements for its safety," said the official.
Sant Kabir Nagar District Magistrate Sandeep Kumar promptly informed the IAF after which an airforce team reached the site and located the fuel tank.
Earlier, police said two objects resembling the fuel tanks of an air force plane were found in a village in Sant Kabir Nagar district. The spot has been cordoned off, they added.
