Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi Lok Sabha seat, Smriti Irani today (June 4) said that I congratulate all those who won in the Lok Sabha polls.
Smriti Irani said, "I express my gratitude to all the BJP party workers and supporters, those who have worked in the service of the constituency and the party with utmost dedication and fidelity. Today, I am grateful to PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath that their governments have completed the pending works of 30 years in just 5 years. I congratulate those who win. I will continue to be in the service of the people of Amethi.".
According to the Election Commission, Congress candidate KL Sharma won the Amethi Lok Sabha seat by defeating Union minister Smriti Irani by a margin of around 1,66,022 votes.
BJP leader Smriti Irani was among the Union ministers trailing their opponents as the vote count trends on Tuesday threw up disappointing results for the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections.
Congress' KL Sharma emerge as giant killer
Earlier in the day, Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma, who was on the verge of pulling off a major upset by defeating Union Minister Smriti Irani from Amethi, termed this a victory of the 'Gandhi family' and the people of Amethi. KL Sharma, the long associate of the Gandhi family was given the responsibility of winning back the party's once-held bastion.
2019 poll results
Irani, who had clinched the Amethi Lok Sabha seat after defeating Rahul Gandhi in 2019, was trailing Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma, a close aide of the Gandhi family, by over 1.39 lakh votes as of 4:00 pm.
