Shaista Parveen saga: Days after the killings of her husband gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and son Asad Ahmed, fugitive Shaista Parveen came into the focus of the media as there is a buzz over her surrender in a day or two. Since Atiq was facing jail term before being shot dead by three shooters in Prayagraj on April 15, he trained and passed his legacy to his sons and wife Praveen. She was not like just another wife of a gangster but, according to media reports, she was an active member of Atiq's gang and preparing for the mayoral election.
Here's a glimpse into her journey- how she made her space in the highly chauvinistic gangsters world-
- Parveen, born into a policeman's family, was a simple woman before getting married to a gangster in 1996.
- Her father Mohammed Haroon was a constable.
- She hails from Damupur village in Prayagraj. Parveen is the eldest of 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
- She was the mother of 5 children, one of them was Asad who was killed in police firing.
- Parveen was a well-educated woman. She had completed her graduation. She studied at Kidwai Girls Inter College at Himmatganj, Prayagraj.
- She got a political legacy from her husband, but she joined another party- Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM in 2021. Later, she joined Mayawati's BSP in January this year. She was hoping to get a ticket from BSP for Prayagraj mayoral polls.
- However, after Umesh Pal murder, BSP rejected the speculation of giving a ticket to Parveen.
- Uttar Pradesh Police has not yet been able to find Parveen. There is a reward of Rs 50,000 on Shaista. She is also an accused in the murder of Umesh Pal on February 24, a witness in the 2005 Raju Pal murder case.
- Parveen, the first time named as an accused in any crime, was booked in the Umesh Pal case. It was her husband's influence that gave her immunity from police action.
- Earlier, she had written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on February 27 in which she apprehended that top cops were planning to kill her husband and brother-in-law on orders of a minister.
