Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday (April 22) said that there are no riots in the state on the occasion of Eid and the law and order situation is under control. Chief Minister Yogi was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 24th national conference of chairpersons of State Public Service Commissions in Lucknow.
“Today, it’s Eid, and there are no riots in the state. No one’s commute is affected. The law & order situation is under control. There's peace & this is because everyone knows that the law treats everyone equally. This is only possible if there is a sensitive administration,” said Yogi.
CM Yogi said that only sensitive administration can become a symbol of public trust. “In a democracy, we cannot ignore the general public. Justice should be given to people irrespective of their name, caste, creed, religion etc. People should get the benefit of the schemes of the government in any situation. We cannot discriminate. When such an administration is there, it will become a symbol of public trust,” he added.
BJP govt ensured transparency in recruitment process
He further said that the BJP government has ensured transparency in the recruitment process which was earlier plagued by nepotism and casteism. Yogi said one-and-a-half-lakh posts had been lying vacant under previous state governments as the Supreme Court stayed recruitment over complaints regarding lack of transparency. “When we took charge of the state in 2017, there were a lot of complaints regarding Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, Subordinate Services Selection Commission, Higher Education Selection Commission and Secondary Education Selection Commission examinations,” he said.
“So much so that the court’s intervention was sought to stop many recruitment exams. In some cases, the court had also made serious comments. I told officials to remove whatever deficiencies were there. Earlier the recruitment process was not transparent. Nepotism and casteism dominated the recruitment process and injustice was done to meritorious and talented candidates,” he said. In the last six years, the government has made five-and-a-half-lakh appointments without a single question being raised on any appointment, he said. He, however, said the number of appointments was not enough for a state with a population of 25 crore.
CM Yogi extends greetings on Eid
Earlier in the day Chief Minister Yogi extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of the state on the occasion. A tweet issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said, “The CM has extended hearty greetings and best wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The chief minister said that the festival of Eid brings a message of happiness. This festival gives the message of peace and harmony.”
“On the occasion of Eid, everyone should take a pledge to further strengthen harmony. The chief minister has appealed to the people to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr by taking all precautions in view of the corona infection,” the tweet added.
In Lucknow, the special namaz marking the festival was held at the Aishbagh Eidgah where the old and young were seen embracing each other and exchanging greetings on the day. Prominent among those who visited the Eidgah included Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav who stressed that the day marks brotherhood and social harmony.
About Eid-Ul-Fitr
Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across the world with people, dressed in traditional finery, offering prayers at mosques and Eidgahs, and families coming together for feasts. Since morning, people have been offering namaz in major mosques and Eidgahs and greeting each other on Eid. Notably, Eid-Ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The festival is of great significance due to the moon sighting which has been part of Islamic culture for a long time. It is believed that Prophet Muhammad used to wait for news of sightings of the crescent moon as it narrated the beginning of a new month.
Ending the holy month of Ramzan and starting a new spiritual journey also marks the beginning of a new Islamic year. Eid-Ul-Fitr marks the month-long Ramzan fasting and the beginning of Shawwal which is the tenth month per the Islamic calendar. Since the observance of the moon is essential for ending Ramzan month and celebrating Eid, it is celebrated in different parts on different days usually with a one-day difference.
