Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari given 10-year imprisonment in murder case

The Ghazipur MP-MLA court pronounced the sentence against gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari. In the last 13 months, Ansari has been found guilty in six different cases.

Uttar Pradesh: Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari was awarded 10 years imprisonment by Ghazipur MP/MLA court in Uttar Pradesh on Friday (October 27) in connection with the murder of one Kapil Dev Singh and 2010 attempt to murder case of Mir Hasan in which he was a key conspirator. The Uttar Pradesh court also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on Ansari who was found guilty under the Gangster Act lodged against him in 2010. Ansari has been convicted in six separate cases registered against him in the last 13 months.

A case under the Gangster Act against Mukhtar Ansari was registered in both Kapil Dev Singh and Mir Hasan cases.

Ansari was earlier convicted by Varanasi MP/MLA court on June 5, informed UP Police Special Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar.

He was sentenced him to life imprisonment for the muder of Awadesh Rai, the elder brother of UP Congress chief Ajay Rai.

A couple of weeks ago, the Enforcement Directorate attached lands, a building and bank deposits worth more than Rs 73.43 lakh as part of a money laundering investigation against Mukhtar Ansari. The total registered value of these properties is Rs 73,43,900.

Notably, the state police, so far, have confiscated properties over worth Rs 300 crore owned by Ansari and his gang members, under the provisions of the Gangster Act. Properties worth Rs 284.77 lakh were demolished, and illegal possessions were freed from Ansari and his men, Kumar added.
