Uttar Pradesh: A day after an EMU train had derailed and rammed into the platform at Mathura Junction railway station in Uttar Pradesh, a preliminary inquiry has found that the incident happened because of a mildly drunk staffer who was busy in his mobile phone.

According to locomotive cabin camera video which has gone viral on social media, the staffer can be seen engaged in his mobile phone while entering the engine cabin for his duty. He gets into the cabin and puts his bag near the instrument panel. As he remained occupied in his phone, the train starts moving as the throttle pushed forward due to the pressure of the bag, overuns the buffer dead end and rams into platform number 2.

The incident happened on Tuesday after all the passengers, crew members including the driver had deboarded the train. However, reports say that 3-4 people were injured in the incident.

According to reports based on the Crew Voice & Video Recording System (CVVRS) inside the loco cabin, when the train arrived at the platform, a staffer named Sachin entered the DTC cab (engine) while watching his mobile phone.

He then carelessly put his bag on the throttle of the engine and again gets busy on his mobile.

Due to the pressure of the bag, the throttle went into forward position and let the EMU move towards the platform.

"It broke the dead end of the platform and half of the coach climbed onto the elevated portion of platform number 2, leading to breakdown of OHE (overhead wire)."

The report also said that a breathalyzer test conducted on Sachin showed a reading of 47 mg/100 ml which is considered to be mildly drunk.

"He has been sent for a medical test in which his blood sample will be taken to find out the exact level of alcohol consumption," a source from the Agra Railway Division, said.
