The Uttar Pradesh police on Friday (June 7) detained a man for allegedly making objectionable comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Ballia police arrested Mohammad Asif following a complaint filed by Nikhil Gupta, a resident of Maniyar town.
Speaking of the incident, the police informed that the accused has been charged under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the police, Gupta alleged that Asif called him on June 1, when Ballia was voting in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, (now concluded) and made objectionable comments about PM Modi and CM Adityanath. Gupta further claimed that Asif threatened to kill him if he did not listen.
Asif, further has also been accused of recording the conversation and posting it on social media. Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Jha confirmed that Asif was arrested on Friday.
