Tightening the noose around mafia raj in the state, the Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday declared a bounty of Rs 50,000 on gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari's wife Afsha. Mukhtar Ansari is currently in jail for 49 criminal cases which have been booked against him and aides on charges of land grabbing, murder and extortion.
The action has come amidst UP Police's intense hunt for Shaista Parveen, wife of killed gangster Atiq Ahmed. It is beleived that Parveen had been handling the mafia empire of Atiq Ahmed ever since he was put behind bars. Parveen was also named as one of key conspirators in the murder of Umesh Pal on February 24 in Prayagraj.
The Income Tax Department has identified about two dozen 'benami' assets worth Rs 127 crore of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari in Uttar Pradesh and other locations as part of a "comprehensive" action against him and his associates.
According to reports, in 2019 a case was registered against Afsha for illegally occupying Kurk land in Sadar Kotwali area's Cantonment line and Babedi area in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, a case has also been registered in 2016 for embezzlement of government funds.
