Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) revoked the ticket of its candidate Shrikala Singh from the Jaunpur Lok Sabha seat, said sources on Monday. Shrikala is the wife of former Jaunpur MP and influential leader Dhananjay Singh.

In Jaunpur, the BJP has nominated former Maharashtra minister Kripa Shankar Singh as its candidate, while the SP has put forward Babu Singh Kushwaha, a former BSP minister who has been accused in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam.

This leader may get ticket

Srikala has already filed her nomination from Jaunpur Lok Sabha seat as a BSP candidate. However, if sources are to be believed, former MP Shyam Singh Yadav is poised to become the BSP candidate in place of Shrikala. He may file his nomination today.

According to sources, it is reported that Shrikala will not contest the elections following the cancellation of her ticket.

Dhananjay Singh was granted bail

Earlier on April 27, Dhananjay Singh was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court. The MP-MLA court in Jaunpur on March 6, sentenced Singh and his associate Santosh Vikram to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in a 2020 kidnapping and extortion case.  Allahabad High Court granted bail to Singh but refused his plea to suspend or stay a seven-year jail sentence passed by the district court. Singh and his associate Santosh Vikram were found guilty by the district court for their involvement in the kidnapping and extortion of Namami Gange project manager Abhinav Singhal.

It was anticipated that following his bail from the High Court, Dhananjay Singh was planning to campaign for his wife in Jaunpur.
