A massive fire broke out in the early hours of Friday in the Basmandi area of Kanpur, officials said.
The flames were carried to the adjacent market and buildings due to strong winds. These include Masood Tower 1, Masood Tower 2 and Hamraaz Complex. As many as 540 shops present in the market are in danger of catching fire.
As many as 15-16 tenders have been present at the spot to douse the fire. The dousing operation has been underway for the last six hours.
"It will take 3-4 hours more to control the fire," said Joint CP, Kanpur.
