Gyanvapi mosque matter: The Allahabad High Court allowed a scientific survey of the alleged 'Shivling' found on the premises of the mosque.

Gyanvapi mosque matter: The Allahabad High Court on Friday allowed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a scientific survey of the alleged 'Shivling' found on the premises. The HC has ordered to conduct carbon dating without causing any kind of damage to the structure. 

'Allahabad High Court allows ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) to conduct carbon dating of 'Shivling' found in the premises, without causing any kind of damage to the structure,' reads a tweet from ANI. 

HC ordered to determine age of the shivling-like structure

Justice Arvind Kumar Mishra ordered authorities to determine the age of the shivling-like structure inside the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi using modern technology on a revision petition challenging the Varanasi court order.

The High Court today (May 12) set aside an October 14 order of the Varanasi District Court that rejected a plea for scientific investigation, including carbon dating, of the structure.

No harm to be done 

The high court ordered authorities to ensure no harm is done to the structure claimed to be a shivling. The mosque authorities say it is part of a fountain in the 'wazu khana', where ablutions are performed before namaz.
