Ahead of the bypoll to the Ghosi assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to field 40 star campaigners including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said that a list of 40 star campaigners for the Ghosi assembly by-election has been given by the party to the Election Commission.

It includes some prominent faces like Defense Minister Singh, Chief Minister Adityanath, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak as well as Union ministers Mahendra Nath Pandey, Kaushal Kishor and Pankaj Chowdhary.

UP BJP leaders are also on list

BJP national vice president Radha Mohan Singh, state president Chaudhary Bhupendra Singh, state ministers Dharampal Singh, Surya Pratap Shahi, Swatantra Dev Singh, Baby Rani Maurya, Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi', Anil Rajbhar, AK Sharma, Aseem Arun, JPS Rathore, Dayashankar Singh and Danish Azad Ansari are also in the list.

It should be mentioned here that voting for the Ghosi assembly by-election will be held on September 5 while the counting of votes will take place on September 8.

BJP fields Dara Singh Chauhan

The seat fell vacant after Dara Singh Chauhan, who won on a Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket in the 2022 assembly elections, resigned from his membership after joining the BJP last month in July. The BJP has fielded Chauhan as its candidate in the by-election, while the Samajwadi Party has named former MLA Sudhakar Singh as its candidate.  The Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party have decided to stay out of the contest and have not nominated any candidate.

Earlier on August 18, the nomination papers of six candidates for the by-election were rejected during scrutiny. Election Officer of the Ghosi assembly constituency Suresh Kumar said a total of 17 nomination papers were scrutinised, of which six were rejected due to various issues.
