In a tragic accident, at least four minors drowned in the Kuano River while taking a bath on Monday (June 17). The police said all four deceased were siblings who had gone to their maternal grandmother's house to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha when the tragedy befell them.
'Unaware of the depth of the water, they ventured into midstream while bathing and got swept away,' a police official mentioned while elaborating on the primary reason behind the tragic deaths of the four sisters.
He added that villagers alerted by their screams rushed to rescue them but failed to rescue. Their bodies were pulled out of the water later.
The deceased were identified as Reshma (13), Afsana (11), Guddi (9), and Lalli (7), all residents of Kalu Bankat village in Rehra Bazar.
Meanwhile, in other news, a 28-year-old man and his sister-in-law died, and seven others were injured on Monday evening in a head-on collision between two cars near Benduli village in the Itiyathok police station area of the district.
Local SHO Pradeep Kumar Shukla, speaking of the incident, said Amit Kumar Shukla (28) and his sister-in-law Priyanka Tiwari (25) died while his wife Lakshmi Shukla (27) and son Vinayak Shukla (3) were injured and are currently hospitalized.
The SHO added that the passengers in the other car, identified as Ali Mulla (28), Alimunnisha (32), Hina Khan (14), Nazia (17), and Armaan (8), residents of Gonda, also sustained injuries during the accident.
